"The high road, or the low?" The song inspired by a book of the same name being published this month by Timberholme Books, Lawson's Langley, B.C. publishing company is about the tremendous challenges faced by the thousands who risked everything in an adventurous trek to the Yukon during the Klondike Gold Rush of 1898. "Music has that extra dimension that communicates and crosses all language barriers," he says. "For me (the important thing is) for people to recognize and identify with the heart that is in it." He's thrilled, of course, when his recordings sell in Canada and around the world, but there's more to it. "It's not just business. Of course, music is business. But beyond it all, is the heart in the music." -- Langleys Country Living MagazineThe marrying of a book with a record or vice versa is rarely, if ever, accomplished. Now, meet Tim Lawson who has inspired to write and record the title track from a book of the same title which is actually The Memoirs of W.H.T Olive, his first-hand accounts of the Klondike Gold Rush. Lawsons interpretive spin on those accounts borders on spiritualism, conjuring up an audio visual of the mighty Yukon River and the Chilcoot. Timberholme has also published Lightly Weave: The Poems of Robert Elliott, a century-old book of poetry, which is also the title of a track here, where the chorus lyrics were taken from a poem written by Lawsons great-grandfather in honour of Elliott, who was a friend and published the book. Not to dwell on the historical agenda here, of which Lawson is probably the best-tuned in music historian in the business; he gained international recognition with the release of The Quiet Canadian which was inspired by Sir William Stephenson (The Man From Intrepid), theres obviously more to Lawson, the entertainer. Theres a somewhat lofty character to Lawsons vocal properties that offer a sanctuary of sorts. Balladeer comes to mind, certainly not crooner, although he is romancing adventure, real happenings, love and although its a bit of stretch chivalric deeds. That might be tough for some songwriter/performers to do, but it seems like a natural extension for Lawson. His voice fascinates. His delivery adds impatience and compassion when needed. All tracks are key. Lately I Dont Care has been taken as the first single/video. Recorded at Lawsons state-of-the-art studio which is just south of Vancouver.
